Hiya. I'm trying to figure out what mobo chipset I have.
It is a Compaq Deskpro EN PII 400 slot1.
Under the CPU if you take it out there is a chip on the mobo that says:
AGPset
FW82443BX
F923TB52
SL2VH
INTEL
Does the line FW82443BX mean I have the 443BX chipset?
And what's the success rate of putting a PIII 600 on this chipset?

Get Aida32:
http://www.aida32.hu/download/aida32pe_393.exe
Download that and install it. It will tell you everything about your hardware.
I seriously doubt that a PII motherboard can host that CPU.

Ok I'll get that thanks.
Actually I think it can because that's the first time I heard that someone doubted it. It's ot 100mhz FSB, ans it says it goes up to 600 @ 100mhz.
LOL...

I had a Biostar 440BX motherboard that would take any Pentium CPU up to 550MHz, but no more. It wouldn't boot with a 600 in it. A BIOS update may allow it, but Compaq motherboards are generally "neutered" compared with mass market boards.

Well, that program says I got 440BX, a conflict with what the mobo chip says, 443BX.
Either way I read on another forum that both should work.
There was one guy with a Compaq Deskpro EN PII 333 and they said he could put a PIII 500 or PIII 600 would work.

a 440bx has a 82443 northbridge chip. AIDA is correct.
like I said in your other post, make sure to update the bios. the bios has to recognize the cpu properly.

No conflict there. The chipset product name is "Intel 440BX", and it consists of two chips that have their own name: 82443BX north bridge and PIIX4 (82371SB) or PIIX4E (82371EB) south bridge.

Thanks.
Well, my Dad ordered it and it came today. I put it in, without any bios updating or anything and it works perfectly.:)
I now have a PIII 600!!! LOL!!! Thanks for the help.

Yeh I guess that 0.05v doesn't matter.
Now for my video card... LOL...
Sometimes it gets 61 FPS and other times 86 FPS with a 64mb card. All with the same stuff running in the background.
It just seems to do it when it wants to so I'm gonna overclock it seeings it can obviously handle 86 FPS.
Thanks again.:t

So it's not a P4, it's better than my PII 400.
And at least I only had to spent $44.00 on it instead of $2,000 for a whole new system.:x  :D
