My mainboard (gigabyte 440LX) won't recognize any IDE devices.

What have I set wrong?

It does see any hard drive at all at bootup?

Just double checking here;

1. Are the ribbon cables on correctly? Stripped side to the power plug on the hard drive end and is the stripped side to the #1 pin on the motherboard?

2. Make sure you are getting power to the hard drive.

3. Try a different ribbon.

Let us know.

This is all OK. I have tried multiple ribbons
It's not the drive. It's a board thing. I have tried 2 IDE HDD's and an IDE ATAPI CD drive and none of them can be seen.

Have you tried setting CMOS to default? Is anything coming up on the screen at all? Does it check the memory, etc?

This is pretty simple so I'm not sure if it helps, but maybe so simple you overlooked it. Make sure you set all of the IDE devices to AUTO in your BIOS and reboot. If you haven't done this yet, it should do the trick. Again, very simple. Sometimes too simple (it's happened to me). Lemme know if it works!!

That's what I was trying to accomplish with default settings. I assumed it would do that. I might be wrong depending on the board.

Hey, sometimes it's the simple things. We've all been there. Thinking too much?

Maybe if you try manually entering your hard drive settings and such through USER and fill in heads, cylinders, etc.. it may take. i cant think of much more. Sorry
