Certainly looks to be a nice increase in image quality, woudl be interesting to see the frame rate hit as a result of it like, but still, if PS3.0 does become the standard in the same way as PS2.0 and ATi dont cater for it, this could hurt them

Looks slick, I'm looking forward to getting a card that supports PS 3.0. :t

Wow, that's very impressive indeed.

Lack of 3.0 support could really hurt ATi quite badly as IQ is what ATi really sells on. If the drivers for this set don't force brilinear, or any other "features" and it appears they don't, then they have a very strong contender. That is the one thing that may break ATi, lack of PS 3.0.

That or a half a$$ed implementation that was made at the last minute to combat Nvidia's solution. :t

I might not be looking in the right place in that article, but does it say what card they're taking those first screens from? For all we know it could be a DX8 card.

Very impressive difference!

Ive only just realised that the 'before' screens were taken using PS1.1 rather than 2.0. As such it would be interesting to see what quality difference there is between PS2.0 and PS3.0 in the same environment before getting all excited about how much of an improvment it is.

How did you find that out?

The following before-and-after images are from the CryEngine. Developer Crytek uses Shader Model 3.0 techniques (vs. 1.x shaders) to add more depth and realism to the scenes. Notice the more realistic look and feel when SM 3.0 is applied to the bricks and stones that make up the staircase. In the scene featuring the Buddha, the full image comes to life with the use of SM 3.0, with the technique applied to multiple objects.
Questions are also being asked as to the validity of those screens here:
