hey there

i recently wanted to add another hdd to my comp.
i already have a quantum fireball plus AS 20gb hdd.
i want to add a maxtor diamond plus 30gb hdd.

but for some reason they refuse to work with each other.
i have a msi kt3 ultra motherboard (latest bios ver).
i add the maxtor hdd to the system as a primary slave drive.
but my system just refuses to accept it. the bios sometimes will say "no drive installed", other times it will display the name of the drive but it will be all garbled.
i've tried all sorts of combinations, none so far work.
it only seems to work when i have just one drive installed, be it the maxtor or the quantum.

please help

thanks
lfc

Are the jumpers on the back of the HD set to master/slave correctly, if not it wont work correctly. The primary HD must be set to master an the second HD must be set to slave, if that fails try setting both to cable sellect.

...also, try putting the new HDD as master or slave on the second IDE channel (if you have 2 optical drivers, move one to the primary IDE channel as slave).

Good luck! :D

Be sure that "Standard CMOS Setup" in BIOS is configured to auto-detect the drive. Many times it's set to "None" for faster booting.

"…other times it will display the name of the drive but it will be all garbled"

This is indicative of incorrect jumpers settings.
