I hope they aren't to loud. The leaf blower has made it self known throughout history. We definately don't want a repeat of that again. :D iceblue 04-12-2004, 04:50 PM Not many vendors end up using the reference cooler anyways. PacNW CE 04-12-2004, 05:05 PM I think it's safe to say that Nvidia learned it's lesson with the 5800 Dust Buster. :D I can't wait to see the actual comparrisons between the nv40 and the R420. Then in 6 months we can see how unneccesary PCI-X is in the graphics world I predict 5% + or - 1 improvement over agp 8x. It would not be such a big news if there would be no improvment bob05 04-12-2004, 05:58 PM Looks cool, but I'm waiting to get the NV44. :t mobo57 04-12-2004, 06:28 PM Looks like industrial quality product. Cooler looks like a backwards Arctic Silencer Cooler made in stainless steel. Still gonna wait for PCI X. For the first generation PacNW is right, not going to be much improvement. 2nd gen.... end of the year or first few months next year, we may be seeing a big leap in gpu output, assuming the software people are getting their wares out there to support it. Otherwise it won't be much of an advance. PlatoonSgtElias 04-12-2004, 06:53 PM OMFG lol Minimum display resolution of 1280 X 1024 bob05 04-12-2004, 07:54 PM Originally posted by PlatoonSgtElias OMFG lol Minimum display resolution of 1280 X 1024 I think there might be people who could hack it to make it run 1024x768. But to display at 1280x1024, you only need a 17" monitor, which is mostly common place for gamers out there. If someone doesn't have at least a 17" monitor, then they probably spend some of that $400 to a decent monitor. :t cusimar9 04-13-2004, 07:29 AM Come on... Isn't NVidia supposed to be unveling the NV40 at a LAN party somewhere today? I need news! Vitalka 04-13-2004, 12:55 PM If it's today, then we'll know about today later on or tomorow. Someone Stupid 04-13-2004, 01:39 PM I'm waiting for both to hit the shelves and some hard comparisons from several trusted sites before I start thionking this will be great. A company's job is to sell a product, preferably a better one than the compeditor, but if not, then lie, lie, lie in this business to make the sale. Not saying which will be better and nobody but those who've actually thoroughly used both can say - that makes it a near nobody list, and even then due to immature driver sets they can't concretely say which is better yet. My 9800 Pro is working just fine for me, until it doesn't, I'm not all that concerned provided nvvidia doesn't tank itself again with a horrible card. Having only one real player left in the aftermarket/performance area will cause some stagnation and some extra premiums on the cards as well. Competition is good. Someone correct me if I am wrong. iceblue 04-13-2004, 02:46 PM The next graphics cards will use the PCI Express bus, not PCI-X. Cyan 04-13-2004, 02:52 PM Originally posted by iceblue The next graphics cards will use the PCI Express bus, not PCI-X. Oh... we all know what we mean, Don't bring those stupid "technical" details in. Who want's to write PCI Express all the time anyway? :D cusimar9 04-13-2004, 04:23 PM Some pictures and news of Gigabytes first NV40 cards: http://www.anandtech.com/#21964 That fan seems like a real beast... :( DozerLYP 04-13-2004, 07:48 PM witch motherboard will take PCI express? mobo57 04-13-2004, 09:26 PM none yet, hang in there till the end of the year. By then it will be second generation and something worth while to upgrade to. megaspazz 04-13-2004, 10:18 PM Originally posted by cusimar9 That fan seems like a real beast... :( ..also acts as a cheese slicer! just learned PCX is the abbreviation for PCI Express, not PCI-X (everyone got that? )-| ) SysOpt.com
