Internet anywhere?

Here is a good non-networking read, “internet anywhere with your cell phone and laptop” http://www.bmyers.com/public/288.cfm I couldn’t find too much on this subject on SysOpt and thought some would find it interesting as I did. This could solve standing in lines at campgrounds waiting to use the only phone internet connection available. Read on you RVers. :cool:

My cell phone does not support this ability. I have a TDMA phone. This is the original digital technoliogy in the USA. Most carriers have moved to GSM technology to allow camera phones, iternet surfing etc... Most european companies use GSM as well.

Problem is that it can get expensive. Current plans where I am at allow 8 Megs for $20 a month. One carrier that I have looked into also has a PC Card Cell Modem. They have different plans as it is designed for data transfer only. It is expense just for the data service. This eliminates your cell phone from the equation.

Good idea, but expensive at the moment in this area.

I specifically chose my new phone to work with a cable I purchased that allows me internet access using my Sprint PCS Vision free service on my Pocket PC or laptop from anywhere.

For a $35 cable, I'm very happy.

I received a new advertisment today 4/14. Only a couple of days after my other post. It costs 79.99 a month for unlimited data access if signed up in the next 15 days and the will give a free Sony Ericson PC Card modem. Just to think this is without voice service. I am sure they would slap 40.00 on the plan to add voice.

I spoke to a guy I go to school with. He gets access through Sprint for his laptop. One number he can access free but it is like regular dial up. Not quite 5K a second. The other number he can call give him 20K a second or DSL speeds (256Kbps DSL). They charge him 20 cents a minute with his phone plan for the higher speed.
