Ok, so, I finally ***had*** all of this working.

My video in 'is' working, my video out is 'partly' working.

I recorded from VHS tape -> PC, did what I had to do, and then captured it back onto the VHS tape.

Now .. fast forward to today, and I have apparently done something to screw everything up, I have no idea what.

The Video Out is my problem.

It IS doing video out, if I capture what I'm doing right now onto my VHS it will record it.

However ...

When I try to capture VIDEO it doesn't capture it, it's just a black screen.

It's ONLY the video which will not capture, and I am at a loss as to why.

I've tried several different formats hoping maybe that was it, but no luck. I've tried reducing my resolution down to 800x600@16bit and still no luck.

I'm totally at a loss as to why this is happening all of a sudden.

I just tried capturing ( I think ) the SAME video which I did successfully yesterday onto the VHS and nothing, blank screen.

Cables ARE hooked up properly, again Video out is working for everything "Except" for Video.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks in Advance,

Shane

Welcome to the wonderful world of "content protection".

The video your PC is playing is rendered onto the TV-out wire using so-called "Macrovision" scrambling. Viewing devices are unaffected, but recording devices simply won't catch the picture.

The other thing to look at is: Video windows don't clone. So if you run the TV-out in "Clone" mode and open the video window on your main screen, then its clone on the TV-out screen will be empty.

Connect a TV set rather than the VCR to find out which of the two problems you are wrestling.

Well, the strange thing is, I had this same setup the night before and it worked fine.

I have some old VHS tapes which I have to pull clips from -> splice together, edit and then pop back on VHS.

As a test I grabbed some video a couple of nights ago using this same setup.

I did notice that if I tried playing the video in windows media player and recording it on the VCR it didn't capture the video.

So I went into windows movie maker and played it in there, and recorded and it captured it.

The next day, I tried the exact same thing, but it just didn't work.

My guess is I must have hit something on the VCR or remote which is causing it not to work .. the audio and video are not capturing to 'out' anymore.

I hooked up another VCR just to be sure, and yeah, it worked fine again using my same setup.

I did connect a TV threw the VCR this time as well just to see what going on, it's tough to troubleshoot when you can't 'see things' happening.

Im still at a loss as to why it stopped on my other VCR, the only thing I can come up with is I must have hit 'something'. :/
