Comp specs: PII-350(locked), ABIT BH6, SB Live! Value, Creative Graphics Blaster Nvidia Riva TNT, 64 ram, Win95b
When I Install the Pci Bridge Driver for WIN 95, It installs fine, but when i am looking at the device manager (illustrated on pg E-5 of the BH6 manual) of the four devices, only 3 show up, the absent one being the Intel 82443BX Pentium(r)II Processer to AGP controller. Althought the manual tells me to check for its presents, it does not tell me how to remedy the problem. Without it, I am limited to 16 colors and a 640x480 resolution, and receive errors every time i try to change either of these values in display. I would like to find out how to install this AGP controller. Reply though this forum is ok, but Email would be preferred. Thanks for your time.

I do know that you have to install the USB drivers off the Win95 cd too enable AGP. I'm not sure if that is the problem though.

If you don't have the PCI fix on a floppy or CD, then if you have an Intel Chipset, then download it from the Intel website. If you have a non-intel chipset, then go to the manufacturers website for that chipset and download the PCI fix for bus mastering driver.
www.intel.com (http://www.intel.com)
Let us know if that helps.

The Blaster is AGP, correct?
The BH6 uses the BX chipset.
Win95 came out way before the BX chipset, before the TX chipset for that matter.
It wasn't coded to support these future chipsets directly. So the MB manufactures wrote utilities to support the TX (and another one -forgot) for their boards to run under Win95. Microsoft also released support in the form of Win95 OSR's to address some issues.
Although some AGP cards can run under Win95 OSR2.1 -which is Win95b? Win95 doesn't support AGP directly.
Enter Intel.
They developed the Accelerated Graphics Port, made the BX-chipset and the Pentiums of all flavors. So let's look to them for help.
Anyhow, go over here and download what you find and install it. If you are in doubt contact Abit first.

Hey...Thanks for your reply...I was able to find something at intel that recognizes new AGP ports with motherboards...(95setupex.exe)
I will try installing it now..I just finished downloading. If this solves it, youve just removed a huge weight off my shoulders. Thanks again...Im surprised this isnt a more common problem (maybe Im just too stupid to figure it out http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif )
Ill reply back in a minute or so to update.

Great...the AGP driver is there now...but it still wont read my Riva card!!
when I try to change display settings, it tells me to restart, and when I do it says Grafix adapter is not installed right. I did it EXACTLY what the manual told me to do (the Riva TNT Manual) and it stilll tells me its wrong...Do i need something else? I downloaded updated drivers...for the TNT and the ABIT BH6...any other idea? Thanks in advance again

What version of Win95 do you have?
You have to install the USB drivers too enable AGP. Or have you already done this?
Here is a link that explains it. www.jdresearch.com/agp.html (http://www.jdresearch.com/agp.html)

I cant find this file anywhere...(usbsupp.exe)
Can I download it somewhere? I just scoured the MS site with no luck

If you have OSR 2.1C then it is on the CD somewhere. I think it is in other/usb/usbsupp.exe If you can't find it then you can download it here. www.dfi.net/down9800.htm (http://www.dfi.net/down9800.htm)

jR,
If you have a short quick explaination of why a USB drivers are needed to enable an AGP slot. I'd like to know.
Wouldn't it be better just to update the Blaster's BIOS from here:
support.soundblaster.com/files/download.asp?product=riva&OS=Win95 (http://support.soundblaster.com/files/download.asp?product=riva&OS=Win95)
and install the newest drivers.
AuraEdge can use the drivers from Creative (also at the link above) or use the nVidia's new Detonator drivers at www.nvidia.com/Marketing/Developer/OpenDrvDwn.nsf/4938fcf0bd98786a882565fb006924e7?OpenView&Start=1&Count=250&Expand=3#3 (http://www.nvidia.com/Marketing/Developer/OpenDrvDwn.nsf/4938fcf0bd98786a882565fb006924e7?OpenView&Start=1&Count=250&Expand=3#3)
Edge,
Use the Display Properties /Settings/Advanced/Adapter/Change
and select Display List/Show All Hardware and scroll to the top to select Standard Display Type VGA, press Next and Yes to change.
This will get you ready to flash-in the new Blaster BIOS and upon reboot you'll in VGA mode to properly update the video card with your choice of drivers. Either the Creative or nVidia. The majority would choose the Detonator drivers.
The only other things to do before hand is to ascertain whether or not the drivers are in zipped or executable (.exe) format. You'll know when you download.
If it's zipped it easier to unzip before hand. If it's an .exe just keep the icon on the desktop and double click.
AND
follow the directions to create the bootable floppy with the bios file(s) on i.

You flashed the Video card's BIOS too?
Try updating the motherboard BIOS?
You switched to Standard VGA mode before you installed the drivers?
The only thing misbehaving is the video adapter?
What exactly are the symptoms again?
Just went thru the same **** getting an I740 to work with Win95b.
You have to install the tx and up patch for the mb resources to id correctly. You must install USB support, and the stupid usbd & uscd files do not exist until after the usb bus is set up, so just skip those files when it looks for them. When all that is done, remove the video adapter from device manager and then remove the agp to pci bridge and adapter devices from system devices also in device manager. Then reboot the computer! Win will find these devices and will actually install the stuff! When it finally boots after reconfiguring itself, the agp card will work.
Note: You will see a device conflict in device manager because Win95 doesnt know the agp card actually uses its bridges resources! This is the only normal abnomally of the proper installation.
The easiest fix is to go to Win98 and not worry with all this ****, as it works right from the start!

BBA,
Thanks.
AuraEdge,
Do as BBA suggest and get this over with.
Personally, Aura E., go get Win98.
I figured you had your reasons of not upgrading, so I was going to leave this suggestion 'till last.
Thanks again BBA http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
