First I have to say, that I am from Austria (Europe, so maybe my englisch isnt perfect).

If I start ie6setup.exe under WinXP pro after some time I get the following error message. This behavior doesnt depend if I login as admin or only as a user w/ admin-rights (on my system there are no users w/o admin rights, because it is a single user system). The error message (translated form german):

Softwareinstallation

The software you are installing has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP. (Tell me why this testing is important.)

This software will not be installed. Contact your system administrator. The only option I can select is OK.

I also tried all methods, that are described here (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=822798), bit nothing helped.

When I used method 8 I found out, that onbe certificate was only valid until 01/08/04, so I set the system clock to 2003, but this also didnt help.

Method 7 also didnt work, because the file KBNumber.cat didnt exist. Probably this file is downloadet during the setup when running ie6setup.exe and deleted if the setup fails.

Under Win98SE I dont have any problems w/ the installation.

Under >XP I used the XP-version of ie6setup.exe of course.

Thanks in advance.

Is this your PC or is it a work PC? Your system admin may have set a policy that cannot be overridden.

Where did you get this IE setup from? Have you tried running it from a free CD like MSN or AOL?

Right-click My Computer and select Properties. Click on Hardware. Click on Driver Signing. Click 'Ignore' and try again.

I already did this and it didnt work. Maybe because IE isnt a driver.

You speak (type) better english here, than some I've seen from the U.S.

BpB, thats a new one on me. I've never had that problem. Of course I probably installed IE6 SP1 before that update.

I have solved the problem myself now: I found undocumented switches for ie6setup.exe which allow me to download the files from the internet w/o installing them. The command was:

x:\path\ie6setup /c:"ie6wzd.exe /d /s:""#E"

After this you get a menu where you are asked for what OSes you want to download the files and where you want to extract them. Whta is strange is, that after this the setup downloads about 1MB more than when you use the normal installation process.

After that I disconnected from the internet to avoid that ie6setup.exe contacts Microsoft for the logo-test.

After I disconnected I ran ie6setup.exe and it installed everything w/o problem.

The important part here is (type). I dont speak nearly as good Ebglish as I type, because when you type you have more time to think.
