Is it worth RMA' ing a board to have the northbridge fan replaced? Is there a direct replacement, ie the Iceberg, or is there some modifying that needs to be done to get it all to work?

Any recommendations?

What are the symptoms of the northbride overheating? Would it limit my overclocking abilities?

I am overclocking a barton 2500 to 3200.

I had my NB fan fail as well, but on a Gigabyte KT400 mobo. The temps went up to about 40C idle, 49C load on the chipset/case temp. I OC quite a bit and I have never had a problem. But you have Nforce2, so it may be a prob.

The Vantec Iceberg Coppery kit will do you just fine. I bought it recently. DO NOT use the stock thermal paste, it is garbage. The fan is kinda loud, but liveable. $14 shipped. Good luck.

I don't think the northbridge needs active cooling at 200MHz, if a C1 stepping. Still, if you want it to run cooler the iceberg is the way to go.

Note that the abit stock cooler actually IS an iceberg; it's the aluminum version that comes equipped with a low-quality sleeve bearing fan. The copper edition comes with a much less failure-prone ball bearing fan. Why the two versions have different fans I don't know... it seems they skimped on quality to bring the price of the Al one down...

Whatever you do, get the copper version if replacing it.:t
