Alright here's the deal, my other computer recently crashed and just got it working, and right now it's running on MS-DOS v6.22. Anyway, I've been trying to install Win98 onto it and whenever it actually starts to copy the files onto the computer a little message box pops up and says it can't find some sort of *.cab file on the CD, I click okay and then another one pops up that says it can't find precopy2.cab on the CD, I click on browse and go to the directory that I know those files are in and click okay, then click okay again back at the message box, and then it still can't find the file. I'm really starting to get pissed at this thing. If you can help in anyway or know of someone who can, please email me back, the sooner the better. Thanks for any information that you can provide.

PS: Please email me, and not just post a reply. I'm more likely to see my email before I come back here to look at the message board.

I'm not gonna email and post a reply...

I suggest you copy the cabs over to the HDD or use another copy of 98 (is this a burned copy?) I don't care if it's illegal MS does but anyway, make sure your CD rom can read fast enough as well as the HDD, I think the best thin to do is copy the cab files over to the HDD into a folder called win98 then set it up.

Any complaints on this???

Looks like the Cd is really dirty or bad. Can the CD read other CD's OK?

I would reformat the hard drive once you get this problem solved. Make sure you have the boot disk that came with the 98 CD. Is your CD an atapi? If it is, then boot to it and make sure it works before reformatting.

Hope that helps. There is some more help on the cab file error message on the site below. I believe it is under Setup & Installation.
