Running Abit BX6, PII 333, twin CD's, twin H/D(all 4 ide connections used), Win95B w/USB support, and System Commander (for DOS 6.2).

Cannot get new USB scanner to be recognized. It's the 1st USB device I've tried to use. The Device Manager shows only 1 entry under the USB listing; for the Intel PCI to USB Host Controller, NO OTHER ENTRY.

I removed that entry, cold re-boot of system
into Win95 and the Plug & Play reloaded the Intel PCI to Usb Host Controller, but no USB Root Hub entry, from the Microsoft Win95B CD.

Where does the system get the USB Root Hub entry from, the Abit BX6 cd or the Win95 CD?
Or from something else?

Searched the Abit BX6 motherboard book for info but found nothing to help. MS Win docs were useless as well.

When Windows prompts you for the path to the drivers, change the path to the Windows\System folder.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm confused. What do I do to get Windows95 prompt to appear? I've found a folder labeled 'usb' under a folder called 'other' on the 'W95_full_ar' CD. I double clicked on the 'usbsupp.exe' application. ScanDisk then
autoran and checked my 'C' drive, loaded a file, shut down and restarted my system.

I then rechecked my Device Manager and still have only 1 entry for the Intel Pci to USB Host Controller, NO USB Root Hub is shown.

The icon is just a grey square standing on one point, not the tri-plug icon I've seen on everyone else's machine.

still stuck, any other ideas?

Is USB enabled in the BIOS?

Thanks again for the reply.

USB IS Enabled on the BIOS (Onboard USB assigned IRQ....Enabled) and IRQ & DMA Resources are controlled by....Auto

I have tried loading BIOS default...no help
then tried loading SETUO default....no help

Using AWARD BIOS ver. BX6GX (11/23/98), I'm holding off installing BX6JL (02/12/99) till
I solve this. I remember that once I had the
tri-plug icon showing in Device Manager so I believe that once the USB Root Hub was likely installed. I have no idea how it was removed.

Still looking for it to return home.
