my friends computer had various problems, one being no mouse. he wanted me to upgrade this 486/66 anyway so i replaced the mobo/cpu/video card and after formatting, upgraded to win95B. would you believe still no mouse. i put new ide/floppy cables and eventually replaced them all plus connectors, still no mouse. I eventually put a PS/2 connector in and thats OK. I would welcome any ideas as ive never come across such a problem before. short of replacing the casse its got me baffled

Sorry. Your post is slightly unclear.
Are you saying everything is Okay now with a mouse attached to the PS/2 connector and your just wondering why it wasn't working before?

This may be a dumb question, but are you sure it's not just a bad mouse? It happens... Or if it's a serial mouse, you could have other devices set on the same com port, or maybe just disabled the com port all together. Good luck.

Hi,
I have the same problem from DOS and my problem is that I don't have the correct mouse drivers. If you have your mouse's FCC number (usually located on a label on the bottom) you can try the manufacturer's website or windrivers.com to see if they have the drivers. If you find them, try them out. The worst that can happen is that they don't work. Make sure you have the model and FCC no. if your going to try this. Good luck!

I once had a similar problem with a M.B. upgrade. Could not get serial mouse to work, no problem with PS2. Called the M.B.vender, no help, sent M.B. back. About a week later I got a call from the dealer, they told me all was ok. They then asked if I had used the serial cables included with the board (Epox), I hadn't. They told me that the cables were not standard! They sent the board back, I used the included cables and it worked!
I was unaware that these cables were different.

thanks for all the replies, the point is that the mouse stopped working, along with other problems. i tried other mice. i then did a virtual full upgrade, mobo, cpu, video, memory, and formatted and installed win95 osr2, and still the mouse would not work. windows would not detect a mouse no matter what i did. I tried several mice and put new cabling/ports in and i still couldnt get it to work hence going to a PS2

Nimrod,
I am having the same problem. I think that iit is because the bios has my USB disabled in DOS and on her board PS2 and USB are on the same port. My next attempt will be to enable USB is DOS and see what happens. We have 98 on hers. Mine works fine but it's a different board and I can't remember right off the top of my head what the USB settings are on this one. I know I have them enabled for Windows.

Let me know whaat you figure out and if I get hers going I will email the fix to ya.
