hi all, i just got a mx4000 vid card and it does not want to work.
i removed the old card and removed the driver from device mngr.
poped in the new card and ran the disk that came with it and it all looked good untill i get to the last screen where you put in your password, I dont use pass words so I just hit cancel and my desktop would nrmaly pop up, but with the new card it just goes black.
i have went to nvidea and d?loaded their driver pkg and the same thing hapens.
does anyone have any thoughts as to what I am doing wrong?
the card works in standard vga mode and it almost works, that is to say my wall papper shows in 256 collor entill I click cancell on the log on screen then bang, screen goes black and you have to reboot the computer into safe mode orthe cycle just keeps happening.
thanks in advance, ward.

Strange? In safe mode > device manager, remove any video drivers re-start the computer and re-install the video drivers when asked. See if that helps?
Good luck! :D

I have done that over and over. I read something about changing the refresh rate, tried it but no change. I will keep plunkin away at it.
I may even swap over to my xp drive and see if it will recognize the new card.

hi guys( and gals)
I just purchased the above mentioned vid card. I spent a day trying to get it going but to no avail.
I am running an sis730 s main board, american mega trends bios and 256 mb of ram. and the os I am having probs with is win98 se. if I plug in my drive with xp on it the card seems to work fine
on the 98 drive, all seems good till I get to the networking pass word screen( I can see my desk top wall papper in full collor) but as soon as I hit the cancell icon it tryes to load the desk top but imidiatley goes to a black screen.
I read in the manual that if this happens go to display properties and set the refresh rate to 60mhz. well on the xp drive that is how its set and it works, on the 98 drive the only options I have (in safe mode) are unknown and default adapter. naturally I choose the default still no go. is their another way to set your refresh rate?
if I stick to 16 collor the machine sparks up and every thing works, but as soon as I try to bump up the collor it goes back to the black screen thing.
anythoughts on the subject would be appreciated.
I am going to drive into the city and see if the folk at best buy have any thoughts on the matter. but I figure you boys will be more of a help.
thanks in advance. ward.

so you have 2 hdds? try manually setting the win98se video card driver to standard vga for your motherboard video, then reinstall the mx4000. you should have already removed any of the old video card software as well.

thanks midknyte, yes I do have 2 hdds, I,m older and seem to prefer 98 as aposed to xp cause I know where every thing is and feel more comfortable with it. every one I know has xp so I figured I better get on the band wagon and try it out.
I did the standard vga thing and it works fine as far as the computer working and internet capabilities. but as soon as you restart after setting the display past anything but 16 collor it loads the p119 mx 4000 drivers and the black screen cycle happens again.
I did notice that you only have a choice of 16 bit or 32 bit or 32 bit high collor with this card running win xp. and you have to set it to play games that require 256 collors.
O well I will get it figured out sooner or latter.
thanks ward.

did you download the latest drivers from nvidia? go into safe mode and remove the old drivers first.
