When I run Scandisk (Windoze 95 version) on drive C: it locks the system. When I run it on my other drives (D:, E:, F:, G:, H:, I http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif it's fine. So I boot to DOS and run the DOS version of Scandisk, no problems detected!
Anyone have any ideas? This has not been an ongoing problem, just started recently.
Check if you have the DMA enabled in drive c. Try to disable & test if it will still lock up.

May also have something to do with programs that are running in the background from c:, such as 'Find fast' or anti virus programs. Try to exit out of those first and see what happens. Use <Ctrl>+<Alt>+<Del> to find out. Usually Explorer and Systray are the only programs that are required.

Tell me, do you receive any error messages or is it a sudden freeze? Has the drive been compressed, if so, was it recent? Are you loading the Scheduler to run scandsk and defrag the same time (this causes the programs to lock out the drive at the same time instead or concurrently.) Are you manually running Scandsk on C:?

Ok, let's see:
No DMA is not enabled.
If I do ctrl+alt+del all I have running is Explorer and Em_exec (for the wheelmouse) and that's it. (I've never liked things just running in the background without my knowledge.)
No it's not (nor have any of my drives ever been) compressed. Don't use Scheduler, running it manually.
And I'm still baffled. This is starting to **** me off. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

You want to try reinstalling scandisk?
This is how Microsoft says its done.
The following files are required by the Windows 95 OSR2 version of ScanDisk:
Windows\Scandskw.exe 4,896 bytes
Windows\System\Dskmaint.dll 214,048 bytes
Windows\Command\Scandisk.exe 142,353 bytes
Restore the appropriate files from the Windows 95 OSR2 CD-ROM using the following steps:
1. Start an MS-DOS prompt in Windows 95.
2. Type "cd windows" (without the quotation marks) and then press ENTER.
3. Type the following lines, pressing ENTER after each line:
ren scandskw.exe *.bak ren system\dskmaint.dll *.bak ren command\scandisk.exe
*.bak
4. Insert the Microsoft Windows 95 OSR2 CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive.
5. Type the following lines, pressing ENTER after each line
extract <drive>:\win95\win95_16.cab scandskw.exe /L %windir%
extract <drive>:\win95\precopy2.cab dskmaint.dll /L %windir%\system
copy <drive>:\win95\scandisk.exe %windir%\command
where <drive> is the drive letter of the CD-ROM drive.

Thanks Bleeding Edge!!! That worked. I guess the exe or dll file was corrupted. I hate it when that happens http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif.
Luckily I have Cabview installed so I didn't need to go through all those un-needed steps that MS says to do. Just extracted the needed files directly from the cab files. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
Thanks again. Probably would've took me a few more days to realize that the solution is not complex at all. (I always think of the easy stuff last. When will I ever learn?)
