Lately, i've been having a ton of problems with my internet, related mainly to my router and trying to host games. What I did last night was take my router out of the equation and just connect my computer to the modem directly.
I can connect to the internet fine now, but I still can't host games. I made sure that the ICF is off, I don't have another firewall up, nothing is up that would prevent me from hosting games on WC3, but I still can't.
Also, when I try to go to the Microsoft "Help and Support Center", and click on "Keep your computer up-to-date with Windows Update ", it's telling me I am NOT connected to the internet...

I'm obviously connected, or I wouldn't be typing this..
Anyone have the slightest clue what I did???

Follow up:
I have a leased IP of one week from my ISP.
Tools / Internet Options / Connections / Lan Settings is at "Auto Detect Settings" and nothing else is checked.
Network Connections Properties the following four are checked:
Client for MS Networks (service provider: window locator)
File and Printer Sharing for network
QoS Packet Scheduler
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) (Obtain IP address auto and DNS server are set on auto)
(NetBIOS is set on Default)
(I do not have TCP/IP Filtering enabled)
Authentication: I do not have IEEE 802.1x authentication enabled
Advanced: I do not have the ICF enabled.

I think I have stumped the guru's of Sysopt :) Not sure what is going on with my connection, to prevent me from hosting games but I feel that a complete reimage is going to the be the only solution :(
Last night I found out I was able to connect to the window's update page by clicking on Tools - Window's update, but I still can't connect via the "Help and Support" option under the start menu.

Start with the basics... Do a couple of on-line scans...
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
http://www.trojanscan.com/
Then download these and Install > Run > Update > Scan...
Ad-aware Standard Edition (http://lavasoft.element5.com/support/download/)
Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.2 (http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download)
Good luck! :D

This shouldn't be checked. It will slow you down. Did you enter a proxy server address?
Are you sure you have the right time zone? That can mess up windows update.
Did you clear your temporary internet files?

I unchecked that box to speed everything (nothing noticable that i can tell).
I didn't / don't? have a proxy server address to enter, and I don't think one is needed.
Cleared Temp Internet files, both off and on-line, cleared history, cleared pass and everything else I could.
I've ran Adaware 6.0 on my machine and I am currently running the Panda. I'm going to do the Trojan software next, since I already have PC Chillin on my machine as a secondary virus scan. I have spybot as well, so i'll make sure to run that.
..
BTW, can my ISP block ports on my machine to disallow others to connect to me for games and such? I know that it's in my terms of agreement that I can't run a server, but playing Warcraft 3 is not ran on a server, rather my individual machine (blizzard).
Also, would a missing .DLL cause these types of problems or would I get an error to that effect? I do not believe that I have deleted any DLL files ~ I learned my lesson a long time ago, that DLL files aren't to be messed with if you want a stable machine..

try powering off both your computer and the modem. power up the modem first and allow it to boot completely. Then boot your computer.

did that, called ISP, made sure their server was cleared of errors, disconnected router from modem, disconnected power from everything over night, reconnected, etc etc..
just goes Coax-Modem-computer now...
I have a feeling that my ISP did something, but I have no clue what...

I figured it out...
I had disabled Zone Alarm with the msconfig options, but apparentely, it was not completely stopping Zone alarm from working.
I just uninstalled it, and bingo-bango baby, i can host games on Blizzard again :) And I can once again connect to the auto-updates webpage :)
Thanks for helping out guys...It seems that zone alarm needs to either run, and manually be shut down from your system (if you have an alternative firewall), or it needs to be completely 100% removed. The msconfig command isn't enough!!!

Glad you got it sorted out. Wish you had mentioned ZoneAlarm was installed. Disabling it usually isn't enough as you found out. :(
Good luck! :D
