I have sent this to all of the newsgroups I know and have even called Epson. If you have a sec, maybe you can read this and see if you have any ideas.
Just took over as system adm at my company and the adm that left did not leave any documentation.
Hard drive going bad on one computer so I had to give employee new pc. I formatted the hd on new pc and restored everything from old pc (from tape back up) to new pc. When I did the Epson LQ1170 printer would not print at all. Always error mesages.
I know that the ports on the new pc are physically ok and the when I hook the printer back on the old pc, it works fine.
I think The printer is using the interface card that came with it because the cable is not plugged into the std. bitronics cable port on the printer but rather into the port where there several dip switches.
Also it is hooked into an InMac Clear Signal serial switch box. One cable marked com 2 runs into the back of the pc, another marked lpt 1 is running directly to the LQ1170 and another cable seems to be running out of the office room (probably to our main comp system mainframe cluster box, etc.)
In the autoexec.bat file I notice that a line reads: mode lpt1=com2 96,n,1 (or something like this.
Does this mean that the comm port is being rerouted to lpt1? Does the baud rate or anything else on the com port have to be changed?
If so, how can I do this?
Should I be plugging the cable marked com2 into the parallel port or serial port?
Finally, will I be able to install win 95 (on a seperate partition) and use this printer setup switching between both dos and windows apps?
Because hard drive was formatted and all software was restored to exactly to the new pc. I don't think it's a software problem. Sounds like a problem with port settings on new pc.

I sincerely Thank you for any and all help.

Looks like the Mode command is redirecting the parallel port to Com2 in order to use the "unknown" interface card as a serial link to somewhere else.
How is this printer to be used? If it's just for that computer, REM out the line in the autoexec and connect the printer directly to the computers parallel port.

Thanks Bleeding,
The printer is being used for other computer and is hooked into the INmac switch box. Even when I cable the printer directly to the LPT1 and into the standard port (not interface card port) on the back of the printer,it does not print. I tried printing this through a Dos App (Lotus 123).
Also, on the old pc, the cable marked com2 running from the switch box to the computer was plugged into a 25 pin male port. That is the port on the computer itself had male pins. Don't know if this is serial or parallel? It's weird, cause when I hook back up the old pc the way it was everything works fine.
