I also bought two 4.3G Quantum HDDs 1 for me and 1 for my friend about 8 months ago. Luckily my one is working without any problem so far. But my friend's didn's worked properly from begining. Sometimes it can be detected sometimes it not. At that time I thought it is his BIOS problem because it was new drive just the same as mine. Yesterday, I tried to test it on my computer, my computer could detect it, but I couldn't do anything with the drive. I tried format, fdisk, scandisk,... but none of them work.

sadly, its probably the drives.
being that one had problems from the start and the other had problems show up in its "youth". Call quantum, they will admit up to 10% of their drives have problems.... I swear by quantum fireball drives and I think four of the last 20 or so I've installed have been bad. If you call em up and explain your situation They are usually very very prompt in replacing the bad drives.

cheers,
Rev. Matt

I have some quantum chaindriven boat anchors myself.
I'll take the no warranty Micropolis over them in scsi, The slower speed but quieter Western Digital in udma, and the IBM if I'm not clocking
