auto detect IDE HHD by old P75 mother board

I tried to auto detect a 1.6 Gig HDD with an old P75 board you guessed it, no joy. Entered the info manually still no luck. Is there a limit on the size of HDD that old mother baords will support and if so are there any tricks to get round them? Many thanks Brian

Yes, older boards have HD drive limitations.
There may or may not be a Bios update for your board that will help over come the limit. There are also utilities by the drive manufacturers that address this issue.
