Please help!!! Just ordered a new computer for my boss, and it is giving random lockups. It will sometimes do it 5 seconds into windows, sometimes 2 hours no error messages or anything. System is a k62 350, and NOT overclocked at all. and fan is working it doesn't run hot. I have tried switching mice, disabling external cache, running on 95 mhz bus, etc etc. Also having probs w/ netscape, java will not run and is crashing. Is the new version of win98 worse or something I mean I know they changed their java codes and all, but I can't figure whether all the probs are hardware or software related...rest of configuration...64 mb sdram on one stick sitting in 3rd slot, 4 mb trident AGP card. Is this prob hardware or software ??? and has anyone else had these random lockups w/ 98???

Yes. I have a 300 Mhz w/W98 and it hangs randomly. I thought it was only when I tried to print large spreadsheets. But now I see that it is pretty much random. (I can make it happen by trying to fax a picture)
Anyway it's driving me nuts and I have not been able to solve it. When I do, I will post the answer. Please do if you find it first.

will do man...obviously it is not an uncommon problem, I had it for awhile at home, but it was all about memory because it occurred at 100mhz bus and not at 95. but up here at work, someone has a friggin brand new gateway p2350 that's doing the exact same **** so I can't really chalk it up to the system being a clone...;p let's hope we can figure it out...

Not you Hotrod! - It's probably still all about memory, but maybe nothing to do with bus speed. A couple of times I had one of these intermitant problems that was kicking my teeth in it turned out to be a crappy stick of memory - regardless of bus speed.

I know I know...but heck what can ya do w/ a system you only get to test for two days while working at work during the same time, so I've really done all I can...it's my bosses system and he will not be pullin out memory chips cuz he would be too afraid to do that...heheh...guess I will just let it go and chalk it up to not enough time to configure and test it..makes me feel better anyhow..HEHEH...he does not seem to care when it locks up and happily pushes the reset button.mysel fI would be sick http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I was checking AMD's site for CPU data, and I saw something about a Windows patch for the 350 and above. Seems there are some timing issues with the OS that fail with the higher speed procsesors. Don't remember if it applied to 98 and 95, or just 95. Check it out!
