Hmm. I believe it's always a good thing to have experience and knowledge about different kinds of computers, OS's, whatever it may be. You are just that much more up on things.

I hear that they are better for graphics?

Unfortunately, I have never used or even tried a Mac, but I would like to someday.

Where did it slaughter? In some magazine reviews? /forum/smile.gif
I don't know nothing about MACs, I'm even new to PCs.I don't hate MACs because I've never dealt with.

Just wonder why always in stores or in screenshots graphics look so blury?
All I heard that MACs are for graphics(or used to be?)
The other thing I red about everywhere, Its impossible to upgrade MACs, I mean hardware.

Thats just my opinions about MAC. What I heard and what I red about. Not in magazines, but here on the Net.

Ok, in a MAC magazine, the Mac slaughtered a P3-500 running a mac emultaor and photoshop. When they both ran their native versions, mac was barely faster, and when they bothed used the PC version, the PC won the battle. Here are some facts that cannot be ingnored about the MAC:

1.) Forget upgrades of any importance, everything is built into the mother board except for a few upgrades (like modems) that you have to buy from a company called Apple, and only apple.

2.) The video is good for now(although 32bit color is better) than many PCs, but since you cannot upgrade the video, kiss that goodbye in a few weeks.

3.) The mac chip is faster, the 400 keeps almost on par with the P3 500 when running their own programs, and usualy keeps up decently when running a PC program, but you might as well get a P3 550, it is cheaper and you need no emulator.

4.) Macs are designed for 2 things: cad and photoshop(yes, that program), if you want to do serious cad, and the only other thing you do is photoshop, and on top of that you have the money to burn, then go for the mac.

5.) It is your money, so don't let anyone, even me, tell you what to buy.

Can I please????

Macs suck!!!

Being an ex-Apple kind of guy, (the key word being EX-), I won't even get started on the PC v MAC question. But I will give my reasons for bailing on Apple in the first place:
1)Too **** expensive 2)As mentioned, any serious upgrades come from one source: Apple (= BIG $$$), 3)Ridiculous software support- only so much fun can be derived from watching your system optimization utilities run, 4)Too **** expensive, 5)Somewhere along the line, Apple forgot how to look backwards (remember the GS? Now an attractive $2300 paperweight), 6)Too **** expensive, 7)Lousy (for consumers) business practices- notice a distinct void on the shelves where the MAC clones should be? 8)Too **** expensive, 9)Couldn't handle the looks anymore-oddball aerodynamic shape(?!) and dayglo colors might suit the tastes of a 12 year old, but not me- and certainly not something I have to look at every day, 10)Too **** expensive.

I guess what I'm saying is that considering the limited software support, "one-source only" upgradability, the possibility of buying a machine that will become an expensive (but colorful) relic next week when the company introduces the latest wiz-bang wondermachine, and the cost versus what a killer system from anyone else costs (spelled Athlon), I can no longer justify buying one of these otherwise excellent, user friendly machines.

No offense intended to anyone, just an honest opinion from a previous Apple user. I say, buy whatever cranks YOUR motor!

By the way, did I mention that they were expensive...? ;-)

All objections aside - I like to tinker and upgrade.

But the G4 is, by every review, just awesome! I'm sure that just a little reading about this computer will have many hardcore PC users truely "thinking differently" about MACs.

Well, here's my personal opinion (You get what you pay for). I was loaned a Mac last year for about a month to play around with. It was a slightly older 66MHz box with MacOS 7 on it. I can say without a doubt that I found the interface EXTREMELY difficult and anti-intuitive. I also struggled with some of the little things - the one-button mouse (why do you think God made 3-button mice anyway?) and the fact that the little "dimples" on the keyboard were on the "d" and "k" keys making touch typing quite interesting. /forum/smile.gif (Just imagine each hand one key further apart on the keyboard).

I really have nothing against Macs per se (not that I'd ever buy one, but still), but these differences made it very difficult just to use effectively. I'm aware the Mac was the interface to have way back when, but I think they've been left in the dust with some of the Windows modern interface improvements.

At least that is coming from a hardcore DOS/Windows user with some dabbling in KDE, which incidentally, I found quite easy to pick up - the only thing I missed were Win key shortcuts.

Hi
if Macs are so out of it, why when I attented the last Macromedia Seminar, did all (without exception) programmers state they preferred to work on their Macs than on PC's all demo's bar a few were given useing Macs, gues what the only demo's that crashed or locked up were on PC's. we have both in situe I am not allowed any where near the Mac thats jelously guarded, when I make attempts to get near it I am informed "you only run the company and make the PC compats, web page's and desktop publishing is mine! hands off" man are these Mac people agressive, and possesive when it comes to their machines>

Mac users are really happy with the G4 and the new marketing strategy. However, some G3 users are very disappointed because they can't upgrade to G4.Thanks to Motorola chip! In terms of design, Mac is very original but it lacks of software or games. Emulators are terrible and really slow down the system. I am a Photoshop user on a Pc and never had any problems in terms of the software. Photoshop 4 or 5 are really memory hungry (I use 465megs of ram) and sometimes I feel need more. Macromedia's Director 4-7 work well on the Pc platform and you don't feel any difference compared to the Mac's. The screen looks almost the same but some programmers are really faithful to their platforms. Mac should have a new operating system called Os/10 that it promises to create built-in compatibility within different platforms. The Mac laptops are really awesome!
