Need some help. Audio CDs won't play (data discs are read OK.) I've tried changing the 3 wire analog wire from the CD to the soundboard (Soundblaster Live!Value) and also tried using the digital output from CD (Mitsumi FX320M!b) to the SPDIF on the board
(not at the same time.)
I'm running Windows98 on a AMD K6-2 300MHz with a 100 Mhz bus. The board is Gainward 5VPA with VIA Apollo MVP3 AGP/PCI chipset.
I also tried deleting and re-installing the "CD Audio Device (Media Conrol)" from the Media Control Devices in control panel.

This'll sound dumb, but do you have the CD Player installed?
Hi,
I have also the same type of configuration: Mitsumi 32x, sb live value.
Tell me, what happen when you double-click on the cd icon from the Windows Explorer ?
If you have the contents of the cd displayed (ie if you "explore" it), re-install the sound card drivers. Better: download the newest version from www.sblive.com
Also, check the disk detector and enable it (form the control panel)

Thanks for the suggestions, but . . .
tapped: The CD is installed. In fact I've un-installed and re-installed several times. No change.
Stan: When I expand the D drive in Windows Explorer the tracks show up. Yes, I've reinstalled the SB Live drivers and downloaded new ones from Creative. No help.
Since I posted the message last night, I found the Mitsumi diagnostic disk. The diagnostics requires a reboot to DOS mode. Everything works fine there. One of the tests calls for an audio disk and it plays fine - both through headphones from the front of the CD and through the sound card. Problem seems to be in Windows98.
Someone suggested replacing the Windows98 "MCI driver for CD audio devices" (MCICDA.DRV) with the Windows95 version. Didn't help.

1) Try the Volume Control in Start/Accesories/Entertainment/ and activate in Properties the CD Audio Input. See that Mute is unchecked. Also the level to be high enough.
2) If that's not the case, verify in Control Panel/Multimedia the Audio tab if it has the Sound Blaster devices installed for Playback and Recording.
Hope it helps.

Yupee:
Mute is off and SB is installed for both playback and Record.
When I put an audio CD in the drive the "Disk Detector" reacts and the CD Player is started. After about 15-20 seconds the player shows track 01 and then everything but the mouse stops. About 1 min later I get the message: "Play Center cannot play current track. The file/CD track may be corrupted." Then everything hangs up again until I open the disk tray. Within a few seconds, the system starts operating again.
