when i have several web browsers open, it will freeze, and sometimes stay frozen. other times it will come back after like 15-20 seconds, and tell me to reboot my computer. it will be in 640x480 mode and the colors are all messed up. if i turn on VPU recover, it will come back after 15-20 seconds and be fine. an error box will pop up saying that VPU recover saved my system or somethting like that.
just a second ago, my computer froze with diablo 2 and 3 browsers open, and after i rebooted a box came up sayint that windows had recovered from a serious error that was probably caused by my 9800 pro or its drivers.
immediatly after that, i got on here to post and my mouse (well my entire comp actually) began running EXTREMELY choppily (it freezes for a split second at a time and then comes back. its most noticable when moving the mouse), and then it froze as i was about to post.
i ran a virus scan, no virus.
my comp is also beeping, but its not the motherboard's speaker. i have no idea what it is. i THINK it beeps every time the comp freezes for a sec but its so hard to time it i cant be sure.
that you for reading this confusing post(s).

ok more info.
when it is doing its choppy thing, the system usage goes to about 20% and stays there.
it just went away a minute ago and now my performance is at ~2%.
what gives????

First, watch your language Fliptomania. I edited your posts, we do not want to see that kind of language here!
Now, it sounds like a heat problem? What are you temps? Are you OC'ing anything? What brand and size PSU do you have?

srry bout language im very flustered.
i have my case literally open, sitting in the middle of the room, with the window open. i really dont think its overheating.
im not sure what a psu is and im not overclocking anything.
i have a 450 watt power supply if that matters.

Not an excuse but just don't do it again and all is forgiven.

That doesn't mean it is not over-heating. Download Motherboard Monitor (http://mbm.livewiredev.com/) or go into your BIOS and see what your temps are.
PSU = Power supply. It is possible that your 450w PSU is failing too?
Could be bad RAM? Download a memory tester - www.memtest.org and test your RAM (best to let it run over-night).

ok thanks, as of currently, though, my computer has taken to constantly using 20% of its CPU on what appears to be nothing (i have no applications running, and normally it stays under 5% with no applications running). the computer is also very very very choppy.. partially freezing every few seconds.
any idea what could cause this?
also i have a few questions:
if it is overheating, can any permanent damage have occurred?
if so how much damage and could i live with it?
ty for fast responses

That's what you're going to have to find out? Buy a tester or try a different PSU.
You should be able to see your temps in the BIOS.
