I've rcently acquired a 420Mb Connor HDD. When auto detecting this drive it is found as a 213Mb drive all stuff relating to Cylinders etc is screwed up. Having exited the cmos i get the message secondary slave HDD failed any suggestions. Has anyone experimented with low level formating (i realise this is rather drastic but i've nothing to lose)

No need for that!
If you have all the data for the HD, just put them in BIOS defining the type USER

Brian -

If you haven't already done so, you might check Seagate's website for utils that can help.

Low-level formatting isn't that drastic a step. I've had to do it numerous times. Go to Maxtor's site and download their installation program. With it comes a set of utilities you can use on any drive. The one you want is called maxllf.exe. If you can't find it there, email me and I'll send it to you. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
