Motherboard Name: Gigabyte GA-8IHXP

Condition: The fan is not spinning. It is plugged into the motherboard. I unplugged different wires and it still doesn't come on. All fans are working except that one. Normal temps in the system get up to 82F. CPU is at 110F average..Bought the motherboard a year ago. No warranty.

Could buy a new board.

But first, what are possible solutions to the problem?

Are we talking about the fan on the northbrigde chipset? Fans wear out, like tires. Besides its not that critical unless you overclock.
A replacement is easy enough to find.

Is this the CPU fan that's not working? If so replace it BEFORE rebooting.

The CPU fan is still going strong...The fan that went out is right below the cpu.

Since January, I've been getting a "Beginning Physical Memory Dump" blue screen crash. I first assumed it was the ram...I ran the Windows Memory Diagnostic test and it found no errors with the RAM. Then just today I noticed the fan wasn't working, first time I've noticed since January...

I didn't know that I could replace the fan.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do. I may buy the new fan like the one suggested.

Evercool makes a nice kit. I just bought one. http://www.adpmods.com/xcart/catalog/product_281_Evercool_Chipset_Cooling_Kit.html

that'd be your northbridge fan...Anywaya a replacement is fairly easy. i would recommend you just get a 40mm fan. Do not replace the whole heatsink/fan..it'd be a waste of time.

By the way, for those of you who do not know Gigabyte ships it's baords with specific fan connectors (the one that video cards used to use...you know two wires only...black and a red) so getting something that fits that spec would make it even easier instead of getting a regular connector and running it across the motherboard...or you could be really slick and splice those cables and hitch the new fan in the old one's power socket...

I've looked everywhere, google, newegg...I'm having a difficult time finding just a single 40mm fan. The recommendations are great, but I don't feel like replacing the entire heatsink and fan. I hate looking for computer parts (sometimes).

I looked at this again - it looks almost like it would work! However, does anyone know if this will attach to ANY northbridge motherboard? I'm just worried about the holes aligning properly with the motherboard. Or are they all the same?

Yes it will, you can use a thermal adhesive for it unless your your motherboard supports the north bridge heatsink/fan to be clipped on and you have one that clips on.

Otherwise I recomend Arctic Silver Adhesive (http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_silver_thermal_adhesive.htm) you can get it here (http://www.bestbyte.net/Product.cfm?ProductID=46&CategoryID=7&Keyword=).

Or if you have one that just clips on, get some Arctic Silver 5 (http://www.arcticsilver.com/as5.htm). You can buy it here (http://www.bestbyte.net/Product.cfm?ProductID=1414&CategoryID=7&Keyword=) for about 6 bucks shipped.

Got the Vantec Iceberg in the mail..But it won't fit the motherboard!! :(

The plug is different, too. Does anyone know how to solve this problem (besides buying a different fan)...

Update: Turned on the computer today and the old fan is spinning. And at the moment, it's still spinning! I guess cleaning it out helped. But the strange thing is, after I cleaned the fan three days ago ( a lot of dust ) - it didn't work until today.

Take the fan off the heatsink. Take the sticker that is a dot off of the fan. This covers the re-oil hole. Put a couple of drops of oil in the hole and manually rotate the blades back and forth to work the oil in.
Don't use motor oil or WD40, won't work. What I found that works best is to go to a hobby shop and pick up a small bottle of oil that is used for the shocks on an RC car.
