have you tried switching the computer off for 15 minutes and leaving things to reset on their own?
Is this XP Pro or Home? They have different security protocols!

IF you have created an Automatic System Recovery backup point you can use the ASR floppy to boot the system and return the registry settings to the date of the backup! I "think" pressing Ctrl+Alt+Dlt at the logon screen returns you to the old 2K logn box, tho' I'm not sure that will be of much use to you and a "repair" may only get you to where you are currently ...although if all else fails it's still an option.
What message are you getting at the logon screen?

There anyway to atleast get to my files? Have to finish up a Computer science program...... y would Microsoft make it that easy to screw over your computer..... did it give me a new login name? and password when i hit the config wizard for the home network? Is there any default overwrite password that i could have set so if this happened i could get past it? sorta like an admin password?

Try logging in as Administrator and use a blank password if you don't remember/didn't set one for that user. I think what maybe happening is you may have joined a network with a domain...but then again, it would require a network Admin to add your computer to the domain... What options do you have at the logon box? Do you see something like a drop down box with two (or more) options, one option stating your machine's name and another stating something diferent?

out there is a boot disk that will reset your Administrator password. I don't know the link. (I wouldn't paste it here even if I did know the link.)

Da_Flea, please watch your language posting here, thanks.
As to your problem... You are going to have to contact your Systems Adminstrator to reset your login and password.
Good luck! :D

If you cancelled the wizard, no changes should have been made, but if you reset the computer half-way thru the process all manner of networking and permission files could have become corrupted!
You may want to try booting from the XP CD and taking the second repair option (the one after the EULA, not the one before), you will need the XP CD key and when completed your programs and data will be intact - This should straighten out any bad system files (fingers crossed) and you'll need to reinstall your XP Updates. You could also call your Admin and ask him for his advice\password, hopefully he's not losing at the races and is in a good mood.
Personally ...I would hold my hands up ...what's the worst that can happen? - so you get kicked out of the Academy and Court Marshalled. No big deal!

You could try a System Restore to a date before you made the changes. Other than that, call your Admin and see if they can walk you through it over the phone.
Good luck! :D

If you can get another desktop computer, simply use an adapter (http://www.cablestogo.com/product.asp?cat_id=906&sku=17705) to connect your hard drive to the desktop and use the desktop's OS to retrieve your files. BTW, you'll have to open up your laptop for doing this, so proceed with extreme caution! Also, your hard drive is probably jumpered as master so, to keep it simple, connect it on the secondary IDE channel as master and remove all other IDE devices from that channel.

Network ID Wizard
If you are unfamiliar or uncertain about performing these tasks, you can use the Network Identification (ID) Wizard to help you.
Click Network ID on the System Properties dialog box. This step starts the Network ID Wizard. This wizard is new to Windows XP, and its purpose is to guide you with a series of questions that can enable the computer to be added to either a workgroup or domain. You can move backwards and forwards in the wizard by using the Back and Next buttons.
The first set of options in the wizard are:
Option 1 states: "This computer is part of a business network, and I use it to connect to other computers at work."
Option 2 states: "This computer is for home use and is not part of a business network."
If you select option 2, the wizard requests you to click Finish to restart the computer. If you follow this step, the configuration of the computer is "Workgroup Member", with the name of the workgroup as "Workgroup," by default.
thats what i did

I had a similar thing happen when I was trying to fix a broadband connection problem. Win2K using network wizard - selected home user. System locked up and logon screen came up on reboot with user set to administrator. Would not accept blank for password even though password had never been set. I was lucky - had another user with admin rights and was able login. User settings were screwed up but was able to sort it all out.
In your case Flea, there are resources on the internet to help you out - just need to hunt for them.

Sounds like you may have unjoined it from the school's domain. When you get the log in screen how many domain do you have? If you have just one, for example DOMAIN (local), then you will need to rest the local Administrator password for the machine.
As the posts above recommend, seach the web, there are utilities to do this.
