Hello :-)
I am the owner of a AMI Merlin DP Dual
Pentium Pro PCI/ISA Mainboard. I tried to install
on this board two Intel Pentium Pro processors
running at 150 MHz, with the CPU voltage set at
3.1 volts, as required by the 150 MHz version.
The stepping number of both these CPUs is SY010.
The motherboard boots but after the AMIBIOS POST
it locks up completely displaying this message:
"ERROR- CPU Microcode load failed - SYSTEM HALTED"
There are no beeps at all coming from the motherboard.
I also tried to boot the computer using only one CPU at
a time but I still got the same error with both processors,
no matter what socket I installed the chip in. However,
the motherboard boots and works normally with a Pentium
Pro 166 MHz 512k that a friend gave me to test my system.
My friend's cpu was tested at 3.3 volts for the CPU core, but
it surprisingly worked also if set at 150 MHz and 3.1 volts.
I do not understand why this board does not work with my
CPUs, but works ok with others. I would like to know if anybody
could explain me the meaning of that error message and if
my processors could be dead or if it could be a motherboard
problem (unfortunately, I was not able to test my CPUs with
another motherboard, I will do it as soon as possible). Any help
will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much,
Flavio
