Hey yal, I just set up a system with 160GB maxtor ATA as the bootdrive and 2 IDE maxtors for data storage. I have the 2 IDE cabled together on the secondary channel. Both drives are recognized in the Bios, but only one of the drives shows up in windows. Any idea why?

Yuppers i had both on CSEL and only got one drive in win, then I put one as master the other as slave and still on have one in win. What gets me is that they both show in the bios

swap em about, so the large drive is primary master and one of the data drives is primary slave, and leave the othe as secondary master, see what happens.

Just tried and it still doesn't work. The only time I get both IDE drives in win is when I boot with one of the IDE drives instead of the ATA

I just noticed that all 3 of my HDs are showing up in the device manager as well, so that means XP knows the drive is there, but for some reason there but for some reason I just can't access it

You can format any drive or partition in Windows 2000 or XP, as long as it's not the Windows partition itself - run diskmgmt.msc
