Hi I have been reading these forums (& anand & tweakit & arstechnica) for a little bit now and have learned much & thoroughly enjoyed the posts. Well, now I have a little problem. I inherited a P233, Asus P2L97 AGP mobo. The thing won't even power up. I know it could be a bunch of reasons, but please one of you Wizards throw some ideas my way please?
The guy who gave it to me said you had to "rock" the power switch... geez...well, i've been a'rocking and it won't power up. Anyone?

since the previous owner said to "rock" the power switch, you should try another p/s.

sounds simple but most of these problems are.

You'll need to post more info, such as:

Do lights come on?

Do any fans come on, or can you hear them running if the cover is still on the case?

Does the monitor just stay dead or does the screen light up?

If everything is dead, it definitely sounds like a power supply problem. Some of them have a fuse but you can get shocked trying to fix it if you don't know what you're doing.

Not really knowing exactly how dead it is makes it difficult to diagnose.

Good luck...

thanx for replies...

It acts quite dead - nothing comes on - like it's not even plugged in; however the power supply box is generating heat, I can feel it when I touch the box.
I reckon I'll keep tweaking with it till my tech bud can swing by...
