Hey peeps... Thanks for your responses to my previous post. This post is to keep those who replied "in the know," so to speak (not that I "know" ANYthing...). http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Seriously though, since having this problem with IE, I've since done the proverbial format c:/s, in an attempt to have notthing but the OS (if you can call it that) on my HD.
Leaving everything at defualt (with the exception of desktop appearances and other little things), I've had no trouble whatsoever....
Funny thing though.... One of MS's people told me that IE uses a different graphics engine than Netscape, so I got to thinking... I poked around with DXDIAG, and under Display, I had a TON of caution flags. They warned that many of my DX files (6.1)were beta and currently unsupported. It also went on to mention that this could cause the system to act up... hmmm....
Of course, this was BEFORE the format c:/s. I've currently got DX6 installed, NOT 6.1... I'm not certain as to the current status (final or beta) of DX6.1, but if it's no longer beta, I MAY have downloaded the beta version before it BECAME final....
Of course, this is all assuming that DX was at all responsible for IE's troubles. I find it odd though, that the DX issue was the only "issue" that stood out.
As I've said, I've got nothing but Win98 w/IE installed, along with a few other little apps in which I have a fair deal of confidence: ICQ, In Control, WinZip, and TraySaver... nothing more.
I'll go with this for a while to see what happens. If all fares well, fine. If not, format c:/s, intall Win95 it'll be...
Thanks again for your responses. I hope my digging into this issue will help others, too.... Be cool....
