I thought there was some utility to make the win95 install floppies from the CDROM (I need to reinstall on my old laptop which does not have a CDROM right now). Does anyone know how to do this. The CAB files are all too big to fit on a floppy, so I know CAB1 does not equal disk 1 of the install set. Thanks.

You can make cdrom startup disc with windows 98, win95 don`t make it. Or you can manualy instal cd rom drivers into you hdd(disk which come with cdrom or computer) and the copy autoexec.bat and config.sys to flopy(but you must change the path of the drivers to floppy a)

I don't need the startup disk -- I need all of the win95 files transfered to floppies in the order and placement that they are in if you bought win95 on floppy. Maybe this utility doesn't exist, but I sure thought it did.

Hey SunRa, where do you live? I have a set of WIN95 floppies, if you like. I'm in NY.

Thanks for the offer, but I live in Portland, Oregon. I have a local lead on how to get a set, I was just hoping that I could avoid the hassle and make my own. Thanks again!

Look for a utility called winimage. It will format your floppys to 1.68 or 1.77 meg so the cab files can fit. There are many other utilitys that can do the samething.

if your notebook came preinstalled with win95
you should have a program in your accessories
or system tools directory to make the system floppies. you will need about 28 floppies if i remember correctly.

following up on blade runner...
you can make a regular 3.5 floppy, 1.4mg (mine actually reads 1.38mg) hold up to 2.8 mgs simply by compressing it thru MyComputer>right click :A >Properties>Compression. On my Win95 OS, says it compresses so that yer average floppy will hold about 1.5mg more...
don't know if this is what you wanted, but hope it helps

Off topic - but will a compressed floppy boot the computer and install Windows? Believe it or not I did not know about compressing the floppies that way - see how smart you are SOCALGAL! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
