My old CD has quit reading CD-R media. It will still read any original CD, just not any CD-R's. My computer at work will read the same CD-R so I don't think it is the CD,s. The drive used to read these same disks. I tried one of the CD cleaning disks before and it didn't help. I was wondering if I can open up the CD to blow out the dust/debris and use a cotton swab with alcohol to clean the lens (much like cleaning the heads in a VCR or tape deck). Or is there some other method that will work. The drive is beyond the warranty so I am not worried about voiding the warranty by opening the CD drive.

Thanks
JJO

there are kits you can buy that clean the lens of the CD. It actually is a cd with little brushes on it. But for god sakes man, dont actually open your CD!!

I tried one of the CD cleaning kits. It didn't help. Just thought I might take some more drastic cleaning steps before giving up on the CD drive.

Thanks
