I am using an Epox Mvp3C super 7 board with an IBM 8.4GB EIDE on controler 1 (master). A second identical device is master on the second controller. No othe IDE devices. (SCSI CD & Quantaum Viking).
When 1st IBM was installed, Win95 SR2 identified it in the device manager. I installed the Epox UDMA drivers add was geting 7.2MB/sec transfer numbers (Nuts& Bolts)! Scince I must always play, I added a second IBM, and noticed the performance was inferior on this drive (5.2MB).
Upon checking I found this drive was Identified as a genric IDE disk type 80. First, why no positive ID?.
I tried checking and unchecked DMA for the device with no real effect. I then changed to the Win95 default drivers, which caused my first drive to now be identified as a generic type 47, and its numbers to fall to 5.2MB also. When I reloaded the Epox drivers, the numbers remained about the same, and windows shows a generic type 47 and 80!
When I use the discover function of N&B to view disk details, I am informed that disk one is not using LBA! It does test slower now than two. I checked and autodetected the disks (BIOS says LBA enabled on both), same results. Tried deleating the disks and let Win redetect- same. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to get my drives running beter? The system does run somewhat slower (not terribly though). It is troubling knowing it should do better though.
Sorry abot the length of this post, but THANKS!
