Hi, just got a new PC today with a 120 gig SATA drive connected to the SATA_RAID connector on an A7N8X-e MB. I want to add a 40gig Maxtor IDE from my old PC to the new machine. I know I need to put it on the primary IDE channel but what settings do I need to make? I'm aware people have been having problems running IDE/SATA setups.

you can put it on any ide channel, but primary master makes the most sense. as long as you have the bios set to boot to SATA first, you shouldn't have problems.

run diskmgmt.msc once you have it connected.

There is a dvd-rw and dvd-rom on the secondary ide channel.

So I can just connect the drive to the primary ide on it's own set to master as long as the SATA is set to boot first?

correct.
