Any good links? Sterling_Aug 03-14-2004, 05:10 PM What is the damage to the CD? Is it scratched? DreamMan 03-14-2004, 06:30 PM Scraches may be the reason sometimes but others it is bad recording. Some CDs dont read well on my laptop CD/DVD combo even though you dont see any scraches on them. When scanned with Nero scanner you find unreadable areas, however, the same CDs play with no problem at all on regular CD drives for desktops. It seems my drive is too sensetive to minor recording problems and minor scraches. I have a Sony built in drive. G 03-15-2004, 07:44 AM Try: CDRoller V5.2 at www.cdroller.com or IsoBuster (Pro) V1.5 at www.IsoBuster.com DreamMan 03-15-2004, 10:35 AM Actually those programs didnt work. They took too long to handle the CD and them they choaked and stalled and stopped to respond. So obviously this job is too tough for them. Any others... BipolarBill 03-15-2004, 11:08 AM Perhaps the drive is just dirty. Have you tried using a CD lens cleaner on it? G 03-15-2004, 11:38 AM I am truly sorry that my solutions are not applicable. It would have been nice if you had mentioned this in your post. Unless the problem is unrelated to the disc (see Bills suggestion as an external example) concerned itself then you will have to accept that the data is lost and improve on your backup protocols. DreamMan 03-15-2004, 01:26 PM Regarding the lens it is clean, I have a kit for that. I think you are right G, I have to confine my self to this fact, and thanks for trying... G 03-15-2004, 03:54 PM DM, kept the disk for safe keeping as an update to the above software you have tried and I have mentioned may come alone. Otherwise, there may be something else out there that neither of us has used yet. I would recommend getting in contact with the developers of CD Roller, as they are very helpful. They may have a solution worth considering. Likewise with IsoBuster. If I come across something of use I will let you know but CD-R etc are almost final when it comes to data lost as far as I know unfortunately in your case :( DreamMan 03-16-2004, 11:52 AM Thanks for the advice,I will try to contact the authors as you said. Meanwhile I have come across a program called CD Data rescue. It seems to be good and doesnt choak but it takes a long time. I am still testing it. G 03-17-2004, 07:56 PM DM let me know how you get on with the developers and the new program. I would definitely not give up. I hope some how it is possible to retrieve your data. mobo57 03-18-2004, 01:12 PM Don't know from what you said what exactly your problem is. I have used this program with limited sucess, might try it. http://www.dvdxcopy.com/CDXrescue.asp omendata 03-18-2004, 01:37 PM If the cd is scratched a home fixit method ive used in the past is some Silvo - if that isnt good enough try Brasso , its an even more granular abrasive! They are polishes used to polish Silver and Brass items! G 03-18-2004, 02:23 PM DM what type of CD damage are you up against? There are many ways; one is a light helping of lacquer so refraction does not occur when it is not needed when a read disc is heavily scratched. As above, the scratch can be you rubbed out using a fine abrasive to reduce refraction again and so on. It may in this case not be software that you need but a physical means of repairing the disc so recovery can be carried out. DreamMan 03-18-2004, 02:45 PM Actually my problem is not physical. The CD I am trying to fix now is immaculate on the surface, no scratches at all. when you scan the surface with a CD scanner like Nero it gives you many red unreadable areas which means the recording was bad. It is not a factory recorded CD. So far the CD Data rescue program is the best which worked with it even though it takes several hours to finish one CD and the file saved may be damaged and inoperable. It is at: http://www.naltech.com I will take a look at the new program mentioned by mobo57 Thanks By the way, contacting the authors of the other programs didnt yield more than making sure that I was using it right but to fix the problem, those programs need to be overhauled so they dont choak from the unreadable areas.
