I have an OEM US robotics 56k winmodem. It has no speaker attached to the card. Can I associate a wav file to modem? Can I get Win 98 to play a sound when modem is accessed?

Can I associate a wav file to modem? Can I get Win 98 to play a sound when modem is accessed? kwai 03-02-1999, 12:27 AM why would you need a sound associated to the modem in the first place? just to make sure its working? your dial up connection icon in the tasktray will usually tell you if the modem is sending/receiving data. but anyway, you could tell windows to make a sound when you use open modem software (eg. dun), get email, etc. in control panel, sounds, but it has to be a software related operation i think, and yes it has to be a wav file. DavidX 03-02-1999, 07:58 PM If your modem has a speaker socket on the bracket, simply run a stereo audio lead from that to the line input socket on your sound card. The modem will then use your normal system speakers. David kwai 03-03-1999, 02:03 AM i don't think that winmodem has a speaker out jack. i got the retail version and it doesn't so i cant imagine that the oem version does. anyway, is sky still listening? Sky 03-03-1999, 04:55 PM yeah, I'm still here. I did check my modem and no, it doesn't have an out jack. I'd just like to know if it picks up a dial tone or not. At times, when I'm faxing, the other fax machine doesn't answer. If it had sound I'd know it tried dialing. I quess I'll have to pick up a retail ver. DavidX 03-03-1999, 06:42 PM sorry - not familiar with winmodems SysOpt.com
