I've been having lockups and crashes when I try to overclock this board to 2200mhz (A7n8X / AMB 2800+ Barton / Geil ultra platinum CAS 2 6-3-3 @ DDR400 PC3200).

I use the optimal settings that are supposed to be the most stable but I'm thinking that it may be causing the video card to become unstable (Nvidia 5600XT also a little worse with Radeon
9600pro now in the wife's PC being wasted).

I guess the question is how can you overclock the CPU, which runs very well without overheating at that speed and still have the video card be stable. After a crash WinXP always reports out as a device driver and the crash occurs when the card is in 3D mode. During normal usage like on the web or in word processing everything runs great.

I check the temp and it's never more than 45DegC It's running 41degC right now.

First...run Memtest86 on that RAM.

Geil is pretty good stuff, but...always check RAM first.

Second, you may have to bump up the VCore voltage a tad.
Lock the AGP Bus in at 66Mhz.
You may have to bump the RAM VDimm and/or AGP Voltage as well.

Just a few thoughts...

But, as you are, keep an eye on those temps. Mid 40's loaded is just peachy Keen...!

Good luck.

I did the memtest thing with microsoft's utility, I think it is memtest386. Everything checked out fine over multiple runs.

I'll try what you saif and see how that goes.

You may have to loosen the RAM timings. Try 2.5-8-4-4. If that works, lower them 1 at a time until unstable.

Good luck! :D

Geil Golden Dragon PC3200 is some of the best Ram a geek like me can buy for OCing purposes. Those chips are hand picked for their manufacturing excellence. I seriously doubt that is your problem.

I have the exact memory and it comes in those fancy silk lined cases. I BULL**** YOU. NOT!! Silk cases.

Just because a chip is not getting hot and locks up doesnt mean that it is not the chip. Maybe the chip could use a few more free electrons applied to her. Try hitting her with 1.75 V see what happens. We are all not blessed with 3200 speeds and default voltage!!
