I'm not too familiar with laptops, but it does sound like the CMOS Battery is going.

I have a 750c thinkpad that seems to lose not only time but also the time saved in the cmos if I leave it off for more than 4 days. Each day it loses 3-4 days on the calendar until it eventually gets to 01/01/1994 for date and zeroes in the time. On startup I get 161/163 Post errors (Reset time and date). Any suggestions? Could it be a battery problem?
