I was doing some browsing at newegg and noticed that they were selling an EVGA 5700 Ultra 128MB for $174 and I was quite intrigued. I know that pretty much any video card will be a considerable upgrade (GF2 MX200, represent!). So, I was wondering... is this card worth it's price tag?

It's ok, but you can get a Geforce FX 5900 for pretty much the same price and get better performance than a FX 5700 Ultra. It's worth the extra couple of bucks.

That is true. A 128MB GeForce FX 5900 can be had for the same price as a FX 5700 Ultra and performance will be even better. Plus, you can flash your GeForce FX 5900 to a GeForce FX 5950 Ultra if you wish and overclock like hell. :D

You guys keep saying that I can find a 5900 for the same price as a 5700 Ultra and performance blah blah blah. All I have to say is... SHOW ME!!!
Newegg's 5700U for $174 (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-130-178&depa=0)
The only cards that I found close to that price were either refurbished, OEM, barebone, or all of the above. All other retail 5900's are $100 more, that's not a "couple of bucks."
Sorry if I sound rude :t :D

Here (http://www.pricewatch.com/1/37/5587-3.htm) on the 3rd page there will be this: Gainward GeForce FX5900 128MB TV/DVI AGP Video Card MFN VGFX5900DT $205, free shipping (eWiz.com).

You could settle for a FX 5900 XT ($179) which has the same overclockability & flashability (FX 5950 Ultra). The XT even has a little lower power consumption. Depending on which you brand you get, you could end up with the same specs as a vanilla FX 5900. The performance difference at stock speeds is only about 5 frames less.

Get the 5900XT at least (some manufacturer's refer to it as 5900SE). Look at the benchmarks. Even at stock speeds, the 5900XT/SE is faster.
