Hey,

I see all these fancy modded cases with lights and such, but does any of these frills add to case temperature? What about the glass cover often used to show off the inside of the case? Does that keep heat in more than the metal the rest of the case is made?

Thanks

Not sure about the clear side pannel. But technically adding lights will generate heat. Its just simple physics. Generally the amout of heat released by a single CC tube is fairly neglagable.

I really don't like tubes much, too tacky for my tastes, I prefer LED spots ..or Laser lights... as they're called, and buying lighted cpu and power supply fans is probably asking for premature failure of PSU's and excessive current drain from the mobo headers!

Got six lighted fans in my case with a barton2500 and my temps stay at 32 sys and 42 cpu.

Thats in an 80F room so that would be about right.

Temps get better with the window open but its to cold then.

I always made sure to get a low wattage output in the lights I have in mine, Plus when I added the Tube light I also added a 5th Fan.

Umm, at the risk of sounding patronizing...they're called "Cold Cathode" for a reason. They arent cold by any means, but CC's dont use standard filament and current like a household lightbulb. Because of this, they give off CONSIDERABLY less heat than their bulb ancestors. Cmon guys, this should be a given. The name says it all.

But they still give off some heat, no matter how "cold" the name! :x

this is true, any extra heat in your tower is heat and needs to be taken care of :), if it rises your temps 1C its heat ;). ICE Berg Heatsinks get hot, notice the name ;)

Get lazer leds if your worried about heat.

I didnt say they dont give off heat, I said that they give off very little heat...and if u wanna be fickle....fan motors give off heat, water pumps give off heat as well.

Actually, something that dropped my temps by 3' C was rounded cables, no joke.

Basically bob, to answer your question, cold cathodes are just for looks w/minimal additional heat. And as for lighted fans...the heat that they give off (motors and lights) is undoubtably cancelled out by the fan itself.

I suppose if you have like 100 of them...

or use incandescent lamps...

Shove a 250 watt halogen light inside the case and turn it on. :)

Sounds like a good idea can i just plug those into my mobo header's ?

Worth a try... Just make sure your PSU can handle the load. :D

Seriously it won't work at all.:x

I agree :(

250 watt into motherboard header tiny as hell wire on the mobo would fry.

Hmm probally would work.... Why dont u guys try it? :) Prefferablly on those super expensive computers. :t
