Computer locks up at 12:00 midnight!!

My computer locks up at 12:00 if it's on at the stroke of midnight. We've changed mother boards, hard drives, and modems since we first noticed it. We've still kept our Intel 200mhz non-mmmx processor, though. Any ideas what the cause is?

Soft Power-Off??

Either someone has malicously hidden a timer and relay in your power supply or wall outlet ..or...dare I say it: this is that common problem in parts of Europe, a self protection feature known as the Cinderella power-off; it has been built into motherboards that are FGC (fairy godmother compliant). If the power does not go off at midnight the computer will turn into a pumkin.

Perhaps there your system is set to run a particular program at midnight and that program crashes every time t is run. Check the Maintenence Wizzard if you have Win98, check the System Agent if you have Plus!95, and check Norton Antivirus's autoprogram start thingy if you have that.

My apology if the post was a serious one - I thought about this one for a while, carefully considered the steps "mcmahonc" claims to have taken and came to the conclusion that this post was in jest --perhaps I was wrong??

Anyway, "JP" gave some good places to start looking and I hinted towards a possible culprit in starting my initial reply with "Soft Power-Off" so that a clever person might think to check if there was some software that was turning off the power (ATX). But since "mcmahonc" stated that a different hard disk was also used I thought perhaps it was not an exact clone of the other software anyway.

like if u installed the same hard drive in each system u probably got a **** virus there are viruses that will do this to yer system at a certain time i would use mcaffe virus scanner and that dont find anythign use norton latest version with virus data file! hahah u got a virus haha!

I have to agree with cmonster. I once owned a pre-FDC computer and while visiting one of the Baltic states my computer actually turned into a pumpkin. It was a real drag but it made a great pie!

Hey! Take those defensive boxing gloves off, CMonster! My remark was NOT intended as a criticism. As I said, I love that humour. Keep it up and don't get paranoid! Your posts on these boards make good reading; very welcome after some of the dry-as-dust stuff here.
I must admit I too found it VERY difficult to take the original post seriously. Can't help wondering if the chipset is one of those rare ones manufactured in Transylvania. Your more mundane suggestion about the power source does sound far more likely unfortunately.
