In windows 98, and 95 too, when you load it for the first time, it asks you for your name and company. Once you tell it a name and stuff, is there a way to change it from the registry later? Or maybe somewhere else??? I have a computer that is being given from me to my little sister and she has been using it since I installed Win 98, but I had put my name on it without thinking. Thanks for the help

Easy....Go to start-find file of type '*.pwl'
on the hard drive. delete this file, when you reboot, windows will ask you for the name and apssword again. Or more easily, right click on network neighbourhood, and select identity. There you can also change it.

I think he is referring to the name and company that you give during Windows Setup; The one you see in the System Applet. I, too, would like to know how to change this in the regestry.

If you do a FIND in the registry, you should come up with it in HKEY-CLASSES_ROOT/SOFTWARE/PROGRESSIVE SOFTWARE/Preferences/UserName
-and/or-
/Microsoft/Mssetup(acme)/User Info

Not sure how changing these entries can effect the logon screen, though. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Here is a link to where you can download winreg95. It is a little program(21K) that will let you change the registered user information. Just scroll down about halfway.
www.annoyances.org/win95/software.html (http://www.annoyances.org/win95/software.html)
If you can't find it I will gladly email it to you.
