Hi, I am running Windows 2000 server and would like to install the Active directory. I know the systems wants you to have access to a domain name but does anyone know of a way to get around this?

I know it's possible but I just don't know how. Please help!

Alex

when you are setting up active directory, you are creating a domain or adding the system to a domain. you can make up your own domain like mydomain.local.

go here for more info:

Thanks for that link Midknyte, I bookmarked it. I followed the instructions to set up my Active Directory but I get an error message that says "The network location cannot be reached. Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Alex

Make sure there is a cable plugged into the network card and that it is plugged into something else, thus powering on the light on the network card.

yep. you need to have the nic plugged into something. not necessarily a router. it can be just a hub or even a crossover cable to another nic.

Hi, I installed The Active Directory. I didn't need to connect to another NIC. I forgot to install a NIC in the first place.

I deleted the DNS, installed the NIC, restarted the PC and it worked.
