I am in need of a graphic guru and his/her knowledge!!
I am about to assemble a computer for myself. I have purchased all of the components I need but am stumped when it comes to the graphics card. I know which one I want...the
PNY nVidia Quadro FX 3000G
or i would settle for ....
ATI FIRE GL 9800Vi
However...I only have 100 bucks :(
So I guess I have to wake up from my fantasy and "get real" .
Please, I am begging for some honest help.
What is the "best" video card I might be able to purchase for such few dollars.???
In case you need to know...I am running ...
AMD XP 1800
256 mb RAM
450 watt psu
4xAGP
PCI slot available
Any help would be much appreciated!!!!

GeForce4 Ti 4200 AGP (http://www.amamax.com/ingeti12ddr8.html) = $97 USD shipped -- if you like GeForce cards.
SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON 9600 Video Card, 128MB DDR, 128-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP - OEM (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=14-102-305&depa=0) = $95 USD shipped - if you like ATI cards.
Good luck! :D

Yeah, the Ti4200 will have a bit more raw speed, and the 9600 will have more features-- and be faster with them enabled.
Both are good cards but the 9600 is more future-proof.

how well will the 9600 run on 4x agp though? :\

Just fine. Most cards are hard put to generate a 1% improvement going from AGP4x to 8x.

The 9600 Has a better image then the TI4200 and is DX9

Even though the Ti 4200 outperforms the 9600, the 9600 is safer because of DX9 support.

First i'd like to thank all of you who replied to my post. I really appreciate those of you who took time out, to help me out.
I got another question for ya, ..... I was wondering,..... if there is any particular "Name Brands" that you would Red Flag , and that I should stear clear of due to the manufactures bad rep for producing an inferior product, or even if it's based on your own personal experience?
Sorry to be such a pain,...but I know how important a decent Graphics cards is
(or can be) to a system.
Aagin ,...I'd like to Thank You All for taking the time out, to help me out here. ;)

It would be easier if you tell us what card are you thinking of getting?

I would not get any ATI card made by Powercolor or and ATI card with the word SE in it, as for Nvidia cards ASUS, Abit, MSI, EVGA, BFG, XFS, PNY, Gigabyte, and Chaintec are all good brands ( I think I named all of them) :t

Both great cards. 9600 will have the direct-x 9 performance, and better A/A and A/F. TI cards will play better with older games and DX8. I would get the ATI9600 because as more DX9 games start to trickle out, you can overclock it and then take advantage of the better IQ.
