Does this mean that you'll have the funds for the fastest system in North Dakota? bdog 09-08-1999, 02:50 AM Hey Jokostel, Congrats on the job. I think you should try to get a computer job though. It will be much better for your future. Computers are a very unique opportunity in todays society. Young people in a way have an advantage on older people in that they have been using computers all of their lives. You can start out almost as an equal to the experienced people in the computer business. I know a young man who is 22 years old, only has a bachoelers degree, and basically taught himself computers. He is making over 100K a year in the computer business and gets new job offers constantly. You obviously have an intrest and skill in computers since you hang out in the Sysopt BBS so often, so make that knowledge work for you. welsh wizard 09-08-1999, 08:40 AM congrats and best wishes with your first job, its a step forward ,bdog sead it though computers are the future, most will find it a raraty to go to work before to long, unless you are in IT business. socalgal 09-08-1999, 09:07 AM Congrats jokostel! /forum/smile.gif CMonster 09-08-1999, 10:53 AM I'll have the BBQ beef on French bread and a Coke please! /forum/wink.gif Congratulations! But I must second what bdog said - if you can get even an assistant go-for/ sweeper-upper position at a computer store it would be to your advantage. Ooops! I'm sorry did you say North Dakota? - I guess your options are somewhat more limited........ [This message has been edited by CMonster (edited 09-08-99).] dkozloski 09-08-1999, 01:05 PM Any dinkus can futz around with computers but the real work skill that employers are looking for and that is getting harder to find is the ability to get out of bed and get to work on time and ready to go and give it your best shot EVERY DAY. Establish this reputation and you will be running Arby's or any other place you work in no-time. There is nothing demeaning about work at any level. When you don't have a job, take anything you can get. If it isn't the job you want, turn it into the job you want by taking on more responsibility and doing your very best. You will be ahead of the pack in no time. Always be looking around for a chance to move on to something better when it comes along but always leave your old job on good terms. scourge 09-08-1999, 01:24 PM congrats jokostel!!! - my first job was as a stock boy at an A&P supermarket. I meet all of dkozloski's requirements. Anybody out there looking for a chemical engineer with 2 years experience? I'll do computer work if I can get 100K/year! I'm dying to get out of Baton Rouge. bigslammer 09-08-1999, 01:48 PM great advice dkozloski, we'd all be wise to follow it. thx Jin Vitas 09-08-1999, 03:40 PM Hey man, Do what you want to do. People may influence your choices. But you take the consequences by making the decisions. Do what's best for you, in the present and in your future. Jin-Vitas KillerBug 09-08-1999, 04:30 PM oops... [This message has been edited by KillerBug (edited 09-08-99).] KillerBug 09-08-1999, 04:30 PM Don't dis Arbys, the pay may stink, the future is bleek, but I bet he gets free food! bdog 09-08-1999, 04:46 PM There is nothing wrong with working at Arbys. I have had worse jobs in my life. Working hard and being responsible is very important as dkozloski said. I just wanted to let you know that people will pay you well for your computer skills, and I doubt that "Any dinkus can futz around with computers", because if that was true, they wouldn't be paying them so much. There are many ads in the paper where I live looking for entry level PC technicians. These jobs usually pay around $10 per hour. Ceeffa 09-08-1999, 05:58 PM GOOD LUCK with your new job /forum/smile.gif We're all rooting for you /forum/smile.gif Chris [This message has been edited by Ceeffa (edited 09-08-99).] MrEd 09-08-1999, 07:31 PM Well congrats /forum/smile.gif The first job I ever had was cleaning floors in grocery stores. Any job you have that teaches you character, humility and responsiblity is a good job. We all have to start somewhere before we can go anywhere. And I'd like curly fries with that please... /forum/wink.gif -MrEd /forum/smile.gif Bill Kunert 09-08-1999, 07:32 PM If you want to get ahead in any job do more than is expected of you, get to work a little early, leave a little late, and don't watch the clock. Employers have a hard time finding people who are willing to work. Showing up every day and doing a little extra will make you stand out. Bill jokostel 09-08-1999, 09:40 PM hey bigslammer:>> i think im gonna try out intel yes you all heard correctly intel.... celeron im gonna wait till next year to get a celeron with the p3 core.... jokostel 09-08-1999, 09:43 PM im going over to arbys after school tomarrow (i get out at 2:30pm YEAH!!!) but i hafta go for orentation and etc..... then i work fri and sat as well.... as long as its $$$$ right?? but as soon as i get my license and a car...by next summer for sure... ill try at Sykes entprises...my bro-in law works there and could probably help me get in...hehe /forum/smile.gif bigslammer 09-09-1999, 01:52 AM cool, by then they've probably given you 2 or 3 raises and you can get an athlon no problem. Yeah I try not to buy intel products but sometimes because of compatibility issues, games, etc. you're just stuck shelling out money to those greedy guys at intel. Have fun on Fri and Sat.. U-96 09-09-1999, 04:36 AM Good luck today jokostel! My first job before University was doing the shelves/till in a seafront newsagents. Sure it wasn't a career, but the people I worked with were great (16-70) because everyone pulled their weight. Trust me, the most mundane jobs can look good on your resume - it shows a desire to work and that you can put the effort in to support yourself. Certainly in the UK job market, someone with work experience is far more likely to be employed than someone fresh out of college. It demonstrates that you can handle real life. Exactly what dkozloski said /forum/smile.gif U-96 welsh wizard 09-10-1999, 05:47 AM Hi any one can mess with computers, G.C.M. I don't take that attitude with my company, theres more to computers than just throwing them together! to many to list here but any of the members who are serious about computers know there's a h**l of a lot to them, this board would be out of business if they were that simple. Don't make the mistake of thinking only an assistants pay, we all started some where, unless Daddy owned the company, you just work hard, learn, and try to get ahead. thats how my company got started and I am still fighting to make it grow, but it still gives me a good lifestyle and will be there for my kids if they want. lance201 09-10-1999, 06:47 AM Hi, can anybody tell me what this diskussion is about???
