Hi,
I hope someone can answer this question and have a solution !!
When Windows 95 loads I get a message with a BIG question mark.. Unkown Device Detected... I then get a message Have disk provided by vendor etc, etc and all that crazy stuff. I click CANCEL everytime because I know I did NOT intall any NEW hardware at all.. It just gets to be a little annoying everytime Windows starts. This has been going on for about 2 months now... strange !!!!!!
Solutions would be greatly appreciated !!

Have you gone into your system panel and looked to see if a piece of hardware that once was detected is no longer there?

What boards do you have in your machine?

Hello Alien;
Thanks for the reply to my question.
I checked everything is o.k.
The boards I have in my machine are just a video, sound and graphics board... nothing fancy. I bought this computer and only had to replace the modem about a year ago.. I used to build my own systems... and I am thinking of doing that again soon..
The problem is strange it comes up twice and I have to click cancel both times... just a little annoying ... Thanks again for the help Alien... I appreciate it

Next time, DON'T click 'Cancel' and see what happens. When it asks for 'Have disk . . . ', try browsing to your Windows directory and at least find out what INF file it asks for. Might give you a clue. At any rate, just clicking 'Cancel' all the time won't solve the problem.
'Unknown device' does NOT necessarily refer to an expansion card. Could just as easily be a system device on your mobo. For instance: did you install Bus Master IDE drivers for your chipset just before you started getting the message?

Remember: computers are MACHINES! If you keep clicking 'Cancel', it won't just shrug its shoulders, say 'oh, okay, forget it' and give up. It'll keep on asking you to install this device ad infinitum - until it finally joins all those Altair 8800s and TRS-80s in the sky ;-)

Thank You DavidX for the reply.
I will give that a try, hopefully I can get to where the problem lies. I just click on CANCEL now because I have tried all avenues.. Have Disk etc. etc....
Thanks again for the reply,,, I appreciate your help
