ok...I just got Comcast the other day and I routed it to another computer...which i use a wireless router(Linksys)...the wireless computer has a low speed of 11.0 mbps...is that natural?my second problem is...just after a few days ago...I wasn't able to use the internet only on the wireless one.It looks like on the "status" screen the activity the packets get sent but it isn't receiving anything?it stays zero...I can connect to the internet but it doesn't work?!?!Help would be gladly appreciated.

11Mbps is normal for 802.11B. That's way faster than what Comcast will provide anyways.

Did you try resetting your router? unplug the power to the cable modem and the router. plug the power into cable modem first. after the modem is done booting up, plug in the router. try your connections again.

Specs are important. Give us more info on your computers. :D

Thanks Midknyte for replying...I really do appreciate it.

My signal stays low-good,but it never reaches it's highest peak?11mbps seems to be slower than the computer I am using now which is 100mbps.

I have tried resetting the router many times and even have tried the steps you have told me.

Specs for both computers are similar:
2.0 Ghz
160GB on the harddrives
512MB of RAM
Both Running Windows XP

Well,if you need to know more...you can always ask...=)

you must have interference like walls or something degrading the signal. that's why you'll never get the max 11Mbps.

Are you using wireless or wired? If it's wired, then 100Mbps is right for fast ethernet. If it's wireless "B", then 11Mbps is normal. you will not get 100Mbps from your cable modem. period.

what do you mean that you can connect to the internet, but it doesn't work? if you can connect to the internet that means your router is working ok, doesn't it?

we shouldn't have to ask everything when you're the one that needs the help. provide as much detail as possible, like brand of router and nics, OS, are you using a firewall?, etc.

The signal could be because of the wall knowing that the back of the CPU is facing a wall.

As of right now,The one I am using is wired but the other is wireless.

What I mean is that,I can connect to the internet, but the web browser won't work and/or anything that involves connecting to the internet.I attached a file that is a picture of the computer I am using now,but as for the wireless one.You can see the Packets being sent and received are working fine, but as for the wireless computer...Packets are being sent but under Receive stays zero.

I am using the LinkSys Wireless-B Broadband Router with the Wireless-B PCI Adapter.I am not sure if I am using a firewall, but my guess is No.

did you check that you don't have any proxy settings in IE?

so you're sure that the wireless setup is correct? what does it show when you run cmd and then run ipconfig? You should get a 192.168.1.x number if you left the default router settings. Your SSID on the router and NIC should match.

you should still check if you windows XP firewall is on or not. don't assume it's off.

I did have proxy settings on IE but i have disabled them, but still has not solved the problem.

The wireless setup is correct and on the wireless it is running a autoipconfiguration with the number 169.254.212.29. I have resetted the router, but it still has not match the default settings.
The SSID and NIC do match BTW.

I have checked and the firewall is off.
