Windows 95osr2: ShutDown Freezes.

In the past week each time when I have gone to ShutDown the computer the screen freezes at the final window which says.. “Windows is shutting Down Please Wait”.
It just hangs there and I have to re-boot the system. If I try to shutdown the computer again it will just continually repeat the screen and system freeze at that last window.
I always run Nortons V3 Disk Doctor & WinDoctor at each re-boot of the system but no errors are found. Odly, when I look in the Recycle Bin I find these critcial files…
Config.sys
Msdos.sys
Autoexec.bat
These 3 files have older dates than the same file names still in C:\
Can anyone suggest how to stop my system from freezing at ShutDown and why these files appear to be appearing in the Recycle Bin.

Your system freezes at shutdown because there is an application that doesn´t end properly. To find out which one, try to shut them one by one at the task manager, before shutting down Windows (pressing ctrl+alt+del). I don't know why your system files appear in the recycle bin :-? , nor if it has something to do with it.

actually its norton utils that's causing the shutdown freeze. use liveupdate to download the fix since they seem to have abandoned the manual download area. you can check out the faq area to find a little shutdown icon that sometimes comes in handy.
