Hi guys,

Recently I bought a Sapphire 9800Pro. I notice a problem, which I do not know if it is related to my PC (P4 3.06g, P4P800).

The thing is that in some cases, when running game (or benchmark), the frame rate will lag periodically in about one second. That is, smooth for about 1 second then sudden lag an instant, then smooth for a bout 1 second, etc.

It happens in 3Dmark2001SE fill rate test and point sprite test,
3Dmark2003 all test except the wings of fury, NFS Underground car select screen. But the others program run fine like BF1942, or ATI demos.

Could anyone tell me if this is normal?

(Original I owned an Gf3 Ti500. Even it lags, it wont be like that. Its quite annoying.)

Thanks.

Welcome to SysOpt! :t

What type and size (wattage) is your Power supply (PSU)? What kind of RAM? What OS? Did you un-install your old video drivers before installing the 9800 Pro? What drivers are you using for the 9800?

I noticed in 3dmark03 with my Sapphire 9800pro the same lag you mentioned. The 3dmark03 rendering was not smooth, even when I was getting 50 fps. I talked about it here:

Thanks for the reply.

I guess it might be 9800 Pro features. (pretty annoying tho...)

Btw, here is my PC configuration.

CPU: P4B 3.06
Mainboard: Asus P4P800
PSU: Antec 380W (previous it is SPI 300W, changed coz I hope the problem will go away)
RAM: Kingston 256M x 2 (3-3-3-8)
Driver: 4.2 From ATI sites

(I did uninstall the Nvidia drivers before I change the card. I even used the detonxxxx program to clean even it reports nothing.)

Are your motherboard drivers the latest and 'greatest'? If nto try updating them. I can assure you this is most certainly not a 'feature' of the 9800 Pro

I too have just installed the 9800 pro. I would like to do a benchmark myself. Where do I get the software to do this ?

I'm running an XP Home on an Intell P4, 2.4 with 768 ram and the ATI 9800 pro.

I uninstalled the old driver and did the reinstall and then updated the Cat. drivers with the latest Omega drivers. The problem is I don't realy see any big changes from my old and I do mean old card. So that's why I want to do a benchmark.

Thanks

Mike
