Upgraded a system from win98 to xp and now the user is complaining of obnoxious beeps coming from the pc speaker. How do I remove these in winxp. (Its not scheme sounds).
when the user is running an application and tries to type a number in a text field it beeps and does not allow the keystroke. thats the kind of thing I am seeing.
thanks

Isn't it better to fix the problem than to stop the warning?

Double-click the speaker icon in the system tray. Click Options > Properties. Enable the PC speaker and then mute it.

I'd like to fix typos but I don't know how to prevent someone from doing it. Just because someone starts a number in an alpha field they shouldn't have this irritating noise. Thanks for the tip.

help file on program shows nothing about sounds or I would disable it there.

I didn't bother to install the c-media driver on this system because there are no external speakers, however I now have learned that without the cmedia driver I get unwanted beeps on the pc speaker. There was no property for the pc speaker but after loading the cmedia driver the sound has disappeared.
